Reflective Journal Assignment Outline

Students will threeeeee page reflective journal on three cultural issues that pertains to them personally. An examination of cultural elements, attitudes, and perceptions about the issue should be included.

Students should take care to include three distinct artifact related to content discussed in class or in the textbook when completing reflections. Think of the article as a learning incident - a topic that influenced your understanding of a class related concept. This could reinforce or challenge your present outlook. The artifact could be an item discussed in class, read in the textbook, resource from article review, or reflected on via the in-class assignment.

Once student determines the artifact, a description of the artifact is to be included. When describing, think about answers to the questions, who, what, where, when, and how as it relates to the artifact.

When finished describing the artifact, student will indicate why the artifact presents an important issue for the student. How has the artifact affected the student personally? Student should include how the artifact relates to the student on a personal level. Student should then include possible implications on a structural level as well.

Student then should reflect on how their personal life would be different if this was no longer an issue (or how it would be an issue if not resolved). What did the student learn from the experience? How can the experience make the student grow personally as a result? Student also needs to reflect on implications for society should the issue be resolved.

Upon completing the reflection, these questions should be answered:
