The Graduate was released in 1967 and is considered to be one of the first prominent films of the New Hollywood movement. This was a time when one of the things that drew audiences to films was that they were different from previous types of films made in America. They looked different, felt different, sounded different, didn't follow traditional narrative structure, etc. How is this film different from all the other films you've seen as part of this class so far, in regards to its filmmaking?
Both this film and the novel it is adapted from focus heavily on the idea of a generation gap. This was a period where a large percentage of the youth of America had great difficulty connecting with and understanding the rules of the culture and society that their parents had grown up in and were attempting to continue on.
