Part II. Does Your Fat-Soluble Vitamin Intake Add Up?

From NHANES and other dietary surveys of the American population, it's known that many individuals do not consume the recommended intakes for all the fat-soluble vitamins. Diets are often low in vitamins D and E and carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables. The following questions can help you determine if your dietary intake of these foods and nutrients is adequate.

Part III. A Closer Look at Supplements

With the current popularity of vitamin and mineral supplements, it is more important than ever to understand how to evaluate a supplement. Study the label of a supplement you use or one readily available from a friend or the supermarket. Then answer the following questions.

7. Are there any warnings on the label for individuals who should not consume this product?

8. Are there any other signs that tip you off that this product may be more harmful than healthful?

9. Summarize what you learned. Your summary must be at least 200 words.

Part IV. Water Intake

1. In the table below, list the foods from your All Daily Report in the column labeled "Food Item." that contain water and the amount of water in each food. In the column marked "Amount of Calories per serving (Cals)," list the calories for that food. In the column labeled "Amount of Water per serving (g)," record the water for that food. If you look at your All Daily Report, under the "Spreadsheet Report", you will see a column titled "Cals" and a column titled "Water."You can use this information to fill in the table for each food item.For the last column labeled "Cas/g water (Cals/g)," divide the calories by the grams of water. You can expand the table by hitting the tab key in the last box.

3. Go back to your All Daily Report and look at the micro-nutrients. Do you see a relationship between water content and the micro-nutrients?

4. Add up the grams of water. How many grams did you consume? What is the equivalent of cups? Did you drink enough water?
