In this week's assignment, you will conduct your own simulated operant conditioning self-study. In Module 1, you chose a target behavior to modify: Either an undesirable behavior that you would like to eliminate or a desirable behavior that you would like to strengthen. graphic clipboard with pie chart Step 1 Choose the reinforcers or punishments Now that you better understand your behavior, identify either a punishment or reinforcer (or both) that might influence your target behavior.
For example, a reward could be extra time on social media while a punishment could be less time on social media. Remember that this is just a simulation, so be kind to yourself. You want to identify reinforcers or punishments that will motivate you to change your target behavior. Step 2 Data Collection Create and implement your operant conditioning plan for one full week and track your data.
Your data tracking should look something like this: Date Time Location Target Behavior Punisher or Reinforcer Comments 9/22 7:00pm My Apartment Read for fun Get to spend 1 hour on social media Slept great and exercised next morning; not grumpy at all; felt more creative. 9/23 8:00pm The Park Too busy to read No social media time tonight Had fun with friends, but didn't feel have time to read after doing laundry and making dinner. 9/24 9:00pm Friend's Dorm Read for fun Get to spend 1 hour on social media Read together in the same room with my friends; felt good and enjoyed my social media time.
Step 3 Reflection After you've finished the self-study, you'll write 1-2 pages about your project describing the intervention, and the results of the simulated experiment. You will also turn in your tracking data as well. Your 1-2 page reflection should be typed so that you can submit it here, and you can also submit your tracking data by typing it up on in the template. Please answer the following questions in complete sentences: Did you observe any changes in behavior while implementing your intervention compared to your baseline data?
Be specific and discuss your tracking data here. What was the overall effect of the self-study on your behavior? Did your program work? Did you make any adjustments to your plan because of what you noticed working or not working? Knowing what you know now, would you have done anything differently? If so, please include changes you would have made. If not, explain why. How do you see yourself using operant conditioning in the future? In what contexts? Did the experiment match your expectations? Remember to submit your response in APA format.
