Case Study: Industrialization led to two major ideas about development: economic productivity and environmental sustainability. In the twentieth century, development was understood in terms of a nation's Gross National Product, or GNP. The Gross National Product of a country is "the total market value of the final goods and services produced by a nation's economy during a specific period of time (usually a year)," (Britannica.com, 2022).

Question:

  • In the twenty-first century, the United Nations established Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), with the purpose of encouraging countries to use government-based solutions to address problems such as poverty, healthcare, and education by 2015.
