Learning Activity

Question: Thinking about Rainie's four revolutions: Social, Internet & Broadband, Mobile and Smartphones can you remember when you entered these ‘revolutions. What was the first social activity that you engaged in online - was it via a social media platform, or was it via another medium like email? When did you first connect to the internet - and was it via a broadband connection? How long have you had a connected mobile device like a smartphone?

This is a good opportunity to get to know other students as you will be working on a group project together - come together in groups to discuss how you joined each of these three separate revolutions and what circumstances led to you being enabled by technology to participate. Was it being given the gift of mobile phone? Was it your school gaining access to the internet? Did you sign up for social media when you relocated to stay in contact with friends?

Compare experiences and be prepared for someone in the group to share one of their most memorable experiences with the class.

These activities encourage a community learning experience between peers, and provide opportunities for facilitators to offer formative feedback, throughout a module, to the student cohort.
