One way to decrease your use of fossil fuels is to heat your water via solar radiation. A solar water heater runs cold water through dark, radiation absorbing tubing. Systems can be as simple as using black PVC pipe on your roof. Assume one such system absorbs at a 45% efficiency in a location where average solar-energy hitting the solar pan- els is 210 W/m2. The water begins at a temperature of 16.0 °C and needs to be heated to 61.0 °C. If the area of the solar panels is 32.0 m2, what volume of water can be heated in one hour?
