Problem I. A client with a daily energy need of 2000 kcal and fluid need of 2000 mL is being fed exclusively with an enteral nutrition formula with an energy density of 1.2 kcal/mL and containing 82% free water. The client is receiving continuous feeding and IV medication containing 50 mL water per day. He is also given 250 mL water orally per day. How much extra water should this client receive in flushes every 4 hours?
Problem II. M.V. is a cancer client receiving enteral nutrition support through continuous nasogastric tube feeding. M.V.'s total energy requirement is presently 2446 kcal (10,225 kJ/day and the enteral formula he needs contains 1.06 kcal/mL. What volume of formula will you (progressively increase toward and) ultimately give M.V. per hour to meet his entire energy requirement?
