Frederick Herzberg (1997) is another of the past giants in management/leadership theory. His work on motivation theory in the 1960s and 1970s became widely popular nationally and internationally. Herzberg viewed job satisfaction (and motivation) and job dissatisfaction as two separate psychological continua, not opposites on one bipolar continuum. His thinking in this manner is quite like that of Lewicki, McAllister, and Bies (1998) in their more recent work on trust and distrust. Talk about your comfort level with Herzberg's view, is Hertzberg's motivator/hygiene theory as relevant today as when he first published it in the 1960s/1970s please give reasons why you think so or not and what value do you feel Hertzberg's theory and research may be to you as a future leader, if at all and what's the takeaway here?
