America One Car (AOC) dealership is moving into a newly built facility in a suburb town of Washington, D.C.. You are retained as a consultant by AOC dealership to design a network solution for their new location. The new facility is assumed to be already wired up with UTP and fiber, with outlets in specific points.
The basic network is to be a LAN that serves desktop and laptop computers in the general manager's office, in the salesman's area, and the showroom area; mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.); a number of servers (to be specified by you) and various printers.
Of primary importance is the types of servers that the business needs, security and back-up for data in the servers, and a secure remote-access solution (i.e., managers and employees login from remote locations into the servers).
Propose and design a LAN network solution for AOC, answering the following questions:
What type, topology and cabling of the enterprise LAN?
What types of server(s) to support the business?
What Internet access (e.g., leased lines, Cable, DSL, LTE/WiMax, FTTH, satellite)?
What types of clients (desktops, laptops, printers, etc.)?
What server data back-up/recovery mechanism?
What security measures (for clients and servers)?
Your deliverable is a Word document of 4-6 pages (not including the title page and the reference page) that describes the network solution, and a diagram that shows the network with all its components. Please embed the diagram into the Word document. References must be listed and cited in APA format. The report should include the diagram of the proposed network, and a table of the components of the network. The components should be specified.
It's recommended that the network diagram be drawn with Microsoft's Visio and embedded into the Word doc, but you may use any drawing program, as long as the diagram is viewable in Word. Two other drawing programs are SmartDraw and Edraw, and both of these should have a trial version available online.
The final report will be automatically processed against plagiarism (turnitin.com) upon submission for grading. The final product must follow acceptable originality criteria (no more than 15% originality score).
