Problem: Throughout the course of the semester, students will locate a recent news story (within the past year) that either explicitly or implicitly refers to and/or discusses public relations with a brief response paper. Response papers should include a brief summary of the events (two paragraphs) and an analysis of the strategies utilized by the organizations involved. Using the concepts discussed in the assigned readings, the student should discuss the public relations strategies, roles and concepts implied or explicitly mentioned in the article and subsequently identify the strengths and weaknesses of the strategies used. If the article does not specifically reference PR strategies, what strategies would you recommend? What types of public relations functions would or should typically be involved in a situation such as the one described?
