Kyle

Kyle is a multiracial, fifth-grader at a local elementary school. Kyle makes Bs and Cs in school and was referred to RCCC for anxiety. Kyle tends to shut down when work gets challenging because he is afraid he won't get the answers correct. Both of his parents are doctors. Kyle shares that he feels a lot of pressure to be a doctor because "everyone in his family is a doctor." Kyle admits that his parents have encouraged him to try a wide variety of activities such as coding, athletics, and outdoor activities. They have told Kyle that they want him to select a career that makes him happy. When questioned, Kyle admits that the pressure he is feeling comes mostly from himself. When other people find out that both of his parents are doctors, they act impressed. Kyle explains that because he has put so much pressure on himself to follow in his parent's footsteps, he never really considered any other careers. While he is able to identify his interests, he is not certain how his interests could turn into career options one day. His only knowledge of postsecondary education is a 4-year degree followed by medical school.
