Question: Journals are an opportunity for you to write freely with minimal risk. It is important to transfer your thoughts and ideas onto paper. Use this writing as an opportunity to write creatively, to discover something about yourself, and to try new writing techniques and vocabulary.

Your journal should be at least 1 page (double spaced). It should be 8-10 sentences. Your journal should also follow the organizational pattern included with the topic of your choice.

Choice ONE: Classification Writing (See Chapters 13 pages 148 - 151)
Select ONE of the following topics to write a classification journal.
1. What types of courses do you prefer to take at college?
2. What types of activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

Choice TWO: Description and Narration (See Chapter 11)
As your textbook states on page 126, "The starting point for all writers is their own story". Everything you write comes, in some way, from your personal experience. These experiences can be used to make us stronger readers and writers. This journal gives you a chance to explore writing a personal narrative.
Select ONE of the following topics to write a personal narrative that includes some descriptive writing to support your point.
1. Write about a person who has influenced your life.
2. Write about an experience that influenced your decision to enrol in post-secondary studies.
