Banks are an integral part of the Oman's economy. Using the services offered by financial institutions depends upon the requirements and choice of the customers. In this scenario you are asked to investigate the need for basic banking practices by capturing following points.
1. Identify the different kinds of banks and financial institutions functioning in Oman.
2. What type of services do banks offer to the customers? Highlight the financial services that you need as a college student.
3. Critically evaluate the costs and benefits associated with opening a bank account?

Guidelines:
1. Not less than 1000 - 1200 words

PORTFOLIO: 2
Apply your understanding about the present value and future value of annuities and prepare TWO Loan EMI (EMI = Equated Monthly Installments) payment schedules based on the following instructions,
1. Loan Summary and schedule of Short term loan
2. Loan Summary and schedule of Long term loan

Guidelines:
1. Suggested Short term Loan period is 1 year to 3 years
2. Suggested Long term Loan period is 7 years and above
3. Each loan summary should not be more than 150 words (Total max. words 300)
a. What type of loan is chosen?
b. Why it is chosen?
c. Interest rate, number of years (loan period) and loan amount to be assumed and clearly stated
d. Starting date and ending date of the loan period is to be mentioned
4. The payment schedule should cover the following,
a. Serial No.
b. Date (period)
c. EMI amount (EMI = Equated Monthly Installments)
d. Principal component of the EMI
e. Interest component of the EMI
f. Interest paid - to date
g. Principal paid - to date
h. Principal balance
5. To be submitted only through MOODLE

PORTFOLIO: 3 Field Visit:
You are requested to choose ONE financial institution operating in Oman and critically evaluate the operations of the chosen institution. You are expected to VISIT the chosen financial institution on your own and complete the tasks outlined below. The chosen institution has to be approved by the Module Instructor. It is suggested that your VISIT to the chosen financial institution may comprise of but not limited to spending quality time in the institution to observe the operations and interacting with the stakeholders formally and informally.

Your report must be underpinned with academic material from journals and books and referenced appropriately.

Outline for the preparation of report and presentation:
a. Discuss about the institution (5 marks): The discussion to include the following,
i. Origin and major milestones of the institution
ii. Key personnel
iii. Current status in the Financial Market (No. of branches, revenue generated, profit achieved, no. of employees, competitors etc...)
b. Evaluate the Products and/or Services (20 marks):
Choose Three of the products and/or services offered by the institution
i. Analyze the features of chosen products and/or services
ii. Evaluate the processes, procedures and documentation involved of the chosen products and/or services
iii. Samples of application forms, brochures, handbills etc... about the chosen products and/or services

Task 1 - Report
Guidelines:
a. Report should contain all the points from the above mentioned outline
b. Not less than 1200 - 1500 words
c. To be submitted only through MOODLE
d. Submission by week 12

Task 2 - Presentation

Guidelines:
a. PPT should capture all the points from the above mentioned outline.
b. Evidences of your visit to the chosen financial institution and proof of interaction with the stakeholders of the institution like photos, Questionnaires used for interviews or interactions etc. Proof of visit should be presented as part of the presentation.
c. Hard copies of samples of application forms, brochures, handbills etc... about the chosen products and/or services collected during the visit to be submitted at the time of presentation.
d. PPT should be uploaded in the moodle prior to the presentation.
