The local malacologist wanted to help the heliciculturist to enhance the soil testing in the snail farm. The local malacologist took petal color genes from flowering plants and through scientific experiments, introduced them into the snails. These snails now have genes that make their shells turn blue when they touch soil that has too much nitrogen and their shells turn red when they touch soil that has too much phosphorus.
