A single puck of inertia m0 is on a frictionless horizontal surface. It is attached to a peg in the center of the surface by a very light string of length d, that is stretched to its full length. Another identical puck moves straight toward the first one with speed v0 on a path perpendicular to the string.

(a) Draw a diagram showing the direction of the incoming puck, the orientation of the string, and the direction of motion of the puck on the string after the elastic collision.

(b) what two quantities are conserved throughout the motion?

(c) Write down the equations that go with the conserved quantities, in terms of the variables ν02,f , m0 and d.
