Assignment

Our final case for the semester will focus on lululemon, an athletic apparel retailer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. This is a culminating case, chosen because 1) it is a 'real' case, made with videos of the actual leaders involved, and 2) it allows for, and in fact requires, consideration of most of the topics of the semester--including leadership, org culture, org structure, communication, team building, motivating, power and politics, and org change.

For this assignment, assume you are Christine Day. Assume she keeps a journal where she writes her plans--for her own career and for running the business. What are the 4-5 top actions she would pursue to 1) successfully lead the organization forward toward its goal of becoming a $1B company, and 2) solidify/strengthen her own leadership?

Since this case was published, several events have occurred for the company, but for this assignment, we will confine our discussion to the time-frame presented in the case (2008). Begin by watching the videos, and reading the accompanying text, through the 7 chapters. If you do not yet have an account with Harvard Publishing, you will need to first create one, and then access the case, using the link in the "Case Materials" section of eLearning.
