What to do about CovidBuster
You are a member of the Board of Directors for SuperDrugs, a pharmaceutical company. During 2020, SuperDrugs developed CovidBuster, a vaccine that helps protect people against covid-19.
During the developmental testing phase, SuperDrugs researchers noticed that some recipients of initial CovidBuster vaccinations experienced severe adverse health effects when they received later vaccinations against other covid-19 vaccination products. The research did not conclusively prove, however, that the adverse health effects were related to CovidBuster. SuperDrugs did not make this information public. Over the past year, twelve people who received initial CovidBuster vaccinations have died after receiving followup vaccinations using other anti-covid-19 vaccines. Families of these victims have notified SuperDrugs that they plan to initiate a legal action against the firm, as they believe that CovidBuster played a role in the victims' deaths. The Board of Directors of SuperDrugs will be meeting this week to decide what to do. What ethical decision-making approach is most helpful in deciding what you will recommend to the Board, and why?
Select four from the below decision-making approaches listed. Explore the factors each approach would take into account in the case, and state what action each approach would justify in this case.
ethical egoism
utilitarianism
virtue ethics
categorical imperative
caring (feminist)
answer should be at least one page in length.
Note: Different decision-making approaches might justify similar responses, but the justification for each response produced by applying each approach will be different.
