Attend a local establishment or some other place where there is alcohol consumption. You are not asked to consume alcohol, but to observe the environment. While in that establishment, observe the general environment and the behavior of the patrons for at least 30 minutes. After you've completed your visit, answer the following questions:

What time of day did you attend the bar? How long did you stay?
What need does going to this bar provide for the patrons?
What appears to be the characteristics of the patrons? What do you think are their major needs?
Does the availability of alcohol increase the likelihood that the patrons will be able to satisfy their needs? Could the establishment serve the patrons' needs without alcohol?
What evidence of the pharmacological effects of alcohol did you observe?
List a few general reactions from your observation of the bar as a non-involved patron.
