Assignment -

Read Chapter 6 of Ultimate questions and watch the film clips (attached). Chapter six is very interesting. Most everyone is familiar with some form of Physicalism and Dualism, but Idealism is not widely circulated in Western societies, as this book implies by intentionally neglecting a detailed discussion about it. There are four main types of physicalism: behavioralism, identity theory, functionalism and eliminative materialism. Most everyone is familiar with some form of behavioralism, perhaps from psychology courses. Study these theories and think about what they mean for your religious/non religious beliefs and theories of personal identity.

For this assignment, you will write two paragraphs on the following:

(1) What theory do you align yourself with the most: Idealism, Physicalism, or Dualism? Provide a detailed explanation that backs your claim, and provide an example that could help others visualize and/or logically understand your arguments.

(2) According to Descartes, our spirits inhabit the body, or what people generally term the "ghost in the machine." What is the difference between Descartes' theory of a ghost in the machine and "possession" (Possession could be "good" or "bad").
