You need to respond to a students discussion please have a minimum of 250 words thank you! (This discussion is about the populists movement)
Discussion:
A major populist movement that had considerable effect on American politics and the formation of the Populist Party of 1892 to was the People's Party. In that era they the People's party was regarded as the greatest political insurgency. What the People's Party stood for was agricultural education and believed farmers should adopt modern scientific methods of cultivation. community organization and education. But who they connected to the most was the "producing classes" which were the farmers, miners, and industrial workers. However, although they were big supporters of the People's Party but their major proponents were the cotton and wheat belts of the South and West. the peoples party realized with all this support that with the new modern technologies coming to play like the railroad, the telegraph, and the national market they felt the public interest of their cause would grow even more. The People's Party gained a platform specifically the Omaha Convention which got their message out even more.
With the platform the People's Party pushed fourth proposals to restore democracy and economic opportunity. But what was also great about the People's Party was how the made huge efforts to unite black and white small farmers on a common political and economic program. What was great about this is the People's Party did not look at race rather the common grievances which the Black and Whites did have and come to agree with a common goal. Whether we would like to admit it there is still racism today in many aspects of society but how the populists progressed we should too. These actions from the Populists I feel this is one of the things we as a society today can learn from today and even practice. I feel It is always about division and almost being on a team and thinking who ever is on the other side is not smart and a bad person.
It seemed like the Populists were about unity for greater cause and they figured out that with more people supporting rather than against the message and the meaning because stronger. Another great thing we can take from what the Populists did was supporting women suffrage. The Populists were ahead of their time supporting reform-minded women from farm and labor backgrounds. I still think it is relevant today with women specifically labor related not being appreciated enough or even being valued as they should be. The People's Party clearly seemed innovative and almost imaginative with all the things they stood for and how they went about it.
The People's Party almost knew how the future was going so the actions they took to show their messages and beliefs that were also progressive was rare at that time. Today it always feels like people and certain groups are trying to bring each other down rather than promote each other and not seeing the bigger picture. The People's Party knew that uniting will always help any cause and people being respectful of ideas and supporting them will make everyone in the country better.
