Case Study: Jenny's OB AV group has been working towards the second mandatory clip upload. Her group has become very close knit. They get along with each other well, stick together, socialize outside of the class and project, help each other, and hope to be placed as a group in future assignments and classes. For the first upload, everyone in the group was in full agreement about which clip to use. For the second one, it seemed like Jenny was the odd one out. Her teammates are confident that they have found the perfect clip, but Jenny feels that it is offensive and does not generate any conversations related to OB topics. When she mentions this, she is met with group rationalization: Her team members insist it is not offensive and they think professor Simons will love it. She is also met with direct pressure. One of her teammates said "Come on Jenny, everyone else agrees, why can't you just go along!" She is starting to question her own judgment, and thinks maybe it's not worth it to share her true thoughts if she will have to face ridicule from the group. She does not raise similar concerns she has about the next submission, and everyone in the group is pleased that they are in full agreement! Since she didn't present a dissenting opinion, her silence has been understood as support for the decision.
Question: What team dynamics are happening here? How might Jenny and her teammates increase their chance of positive outcomes?
