When thinking about prevention and interventions and providing education and awareness and targeting populations for education and awareness around substance abuse, you need to understand your target population. You want to know your audience, so that you can tailor you presentation towards this specific population. For example, if you are preparing to speak to a room full of teenagers about dug use, your presentation will need to be more geared toward keeping them engaged, keeping their attention, all while trying to ensure that the language and materials are developed to meet their level of competence. Whereas, if you were presenting to elementary school aged kids you will have to make sure its more appropriate to reach their age range.
