Learning how to conduct academic research is a skill you'll use in every other class during your academic career; being a smart and critical researcher will enhance the quality of your research and make the best use of your time. But library- or online-based research is not the only kind of research you might find yourself conducting. Distinguishing between primary and secondary sources is essential as you sift through the vast variety of resources available to you. Once you've conducted your research and gathered no less than 5 viable sources, you'll draft your annotated bibliography. Once you've annotated each text, it's time to turn to formatting. Each category of disciplines uses its own style guide to instruct scholars on formatting sources. Read through each category, knowing that even though this project will only utilize one, future classes will draw from different guides. Being familiar with a variety will come in handy.
