Write a 250-word letter to me. In this letter, your goal will be to convince me to include a poem, short story, play, or novel that we did not read in this course for the spring 2023 semester.
In your persuasive piece, you may consider the following questions:
Question 1: Why did you pick this particular reading? What strikes you about it? What surprises or confuses you? What disturbs you? What questions does the reading raise?
Question 2: Why do you think future students should read this piece of literature? For instance, do you think the reading will encourage them to think critically? Or, perhaps, the reading is relevant to important issues of the day? Or, maybe, the reading contains great examples of poetic or literary devices that will help students to understand the writer's technique and, even, encourage them to try these devices in their own writing?
Question 3: Why do you think this reading should be included in the syllabus for next semester's English 102 course? Do you think the reading fits into any of the literary movements we discussed this semester, Romanticism, Victorianism and Modernism? If not, how may the reading be included in the course? For instance, if the reading is more "modern" (in the sense that it was published in the last ten years and does not fit into one of the movements), perhaps it connects with a theme, characteristic or idea emphasized during one of those movements?
