Discussion Post: Strategies for Implementing Pilot Findings in Practice

Return to your textbook readings for this week and focus on the sections that discuss methods of communicating practice changes, users of innovation, and the social system.

Then, read the Bergstrom (2011) article which describes the development of an EBP protocol and algorithm related to skincare for individuals undergoing radiation therapy. This article reports on the process through algorithm development, as at the time of publication they were currently in the implementation phase.

After reading this article, answer to the following questions:

A. Would you recommend a pilot?

B. What strategies would you recommend for implementing the practice? Focus on:

1. How to gain stakeholder support
2. Methods of communicating the change
3. The important attributes of the social system that will facilitate change
4. The organizational leadership attributes that will support and sustain change

In other words, what strategies would you recommend to the author and her team as they move into the implementation phase that will increase the likelihood of innovation adoption by hospital stakeholders
