Case scenario: You work for a heavily regulated and unionized transit authority located in a large urban centre in Canada. As part of a large H.R., Health, Wellness and Disability Management team you support a variety of workers, from skilled trades to transit operators, fare collectors, customer service and administrative staff. A majority of workers are mid-life or older males, some with chronic health issues (type 2 diabetes, muscular skeletal problems, back injuries and prostate cancer). Additionally, over the past 7 years, frontline employees (operators and customer service staff) have been dealing with an increasingly stressed and aggressive public and incidents of violence, aggression and harassment from customers has increased, driving up stress and strain, work refusals and disability claims.
