Case Study: Practical and professional communication with a current instructional coach offers guidance for real-life circumstances. Determining how to handle various situations can be part of a coach's normal work day.

Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this clinical field experience.

Choose a less experienced colleague who is willing to become your mentee and be observed; this could be someone you currently coach. Meet with your mentee to discuss an element of instruction to look for during your observation. Observe your mentee during a lesson and take note of this element and any others where you see a need for improvement.

Following the observation, discuss with the mentee how they felt about their lesson as well as your observations of the lesson. Provide your mentee with positive feedback and 2-3 suggestions to improve upon the observed elements. This discussion and observation will inform the mentor plan to be created during the next topic field experience.

Use the remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to their class.
