Homework: Writing
For this module, you will have the opportunity to interview a teacher of your choice. The questions regarding classroom management and behavior guidance techniques are listed below.
For your Module Homework, you will conduct an interview about guiding behaviors.
Reading about how to guide children's behavior is a very small part of the process. However, you can benefit a great deal from the experiences of other seasoned early childhood professionals. Their advice, input, and experiences, coupled with your understanding of theory and best practices, can become the foundation of the procedures and policies you establish for guiding behavior.
Part I: Conduct one interview of an experienced early childhood teacher that you admire and have great respect for the way they work positively with children, especially children who may have challenging behaviors. The interview should be done with an experienced (infant, preschool, elementary, middle school, or high school) teacher.
Find out the following information and record the answers using the following format:
A. Name of Interviewer: (Your name)
B. Name of Interviewee: (Teacher's name)
C. Date of Interview:
D. Time of Interview:
E. Years of teaching young children/ in early childhood field:
F. Highest level of education of interviewee
Ask these questions:
A. When guiding children's behavior, what strategies do you most often use?
B. Where/how did you learn about these strategies?
C. What are some of the most common challenging behaviors you see in your classroom?
D. What do you think is the hardest guidance issue or greatest challenge you have ever encountered?
E. What type of resources do you turn to when you must deal with challenging behavior? Get the instant assignment help.
F. Have you had experience working with children with special needs? If so, what are some specific strategies you have used with them?
G. If you were giving advice to a new teacher, what would you say is the most important thing about guiding children's behaviors?
Part II: Reflection: Include 1-2 pages beneath your interview answers. Your first paragraph should reflect on what you learned from the interview and the process and tell how your interviewee might be influencing a child's self-concepts and feelings and anything that "stuck out" in your mind about the answers given.
The rest of your 1 to 2 pages should focus on the resources in this module, what might be some suggested strategies that could be used by this teacher or by you as an early childhood educator?
