Problem
Case Study
Part I: Tony
Tony is an 18 year old year 12 learner who has been struggling with the work load at school and has been arguing with his parents. The difficulties he has been experiencing at school are related to bullying and the expectations that his parents have of him completing his Higher School Certificate. He has started using marijuana and alcohol to cope with the stress and his ever increasing volume of voices. He becomes increasingly paranoid and starts accusing everyone that they are against him.
Tony really wants to do get through his HSC and has come to you for assistance.
Task
A. Through evaluation of the information you have received from Tony, identify his immediate needs and goals.
B. Now that you have identified Tony's immediate needs, demonstrate how you will work with the client by:
1. Identifying what intervention and techniques/model you will use during your intervention.
2. Discuss the reason for choosing the techniques/model to be used.
Part II: Tony
You have been working with Tony for the past three months. It is now time for you to undertake an evaluation as per your organisation's guidelines to evaluate how your work has been progressing. Tony has told you that he is generally doing better and has reduced his alcohol and cannabis consumption. He says he is still having difficulties with his parents and their expectations of him. Tony is also expressing that he would rather not keep attending counselling and is forceful around this issue, you still consider that he would benefit from intervention.
Task
A. Identify the range of possible issues that Tony may be experiencing. Identify what other services and interventions may be available to assist the client.
B. Discuss the advantages of working collaboratively with others in Tony's situation.
C. Based on the information that Tony has given you, what tool/s can you use to evaluate Tony's progress?
D. Tony is showing some resistance to continued intervention. What strategies could use to try and keep Tony engaged and motivated towards change?
Discuss the importance of documentation when working with clients. How does evaluation of a client's progress assist the organization in reviewing its service delivery?
