Threats of new entrants is relatively low due to the industry being capital intensive. This mature industry leaves little room for newcomers. Bargaining power of buyers is low due to the low margins in the retail industry and wide range of products. Threats of substitutes are moderately present as target has a foot in many product categories.

Many other retailers offer similar products and prices which is why the substitutes are present. Bargaining power of suppliers is low due to the low influence that each individual supplier holds. Rivalry between existing competitors is strong as Target competes with WalMart, Amazon, etc.
