Problem

A 42-year-old woman with a prolonged history of gastroesophageal reflux disease presents with recent postprandial vomiting. Computed tomographic scan of the abdomen shows no diagnostic abnormalities. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopic evaluation reveals an incidental 1-cm submucosal duodenal mass clinically concerning for a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Direct smears show partially cohesive epithelioid cells with vesicular chromatin, rare nucleoli, minimal granular cytoplasm, and no evidence of mitoses, necrosis, or stroma. A cell block preparation shows no definitive lesional tissue present across multiple deeper levels. What specimen types are appropriate for immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis?
