Consider the following scenario and respond to the questions: Nurse S works on a medical-surgical unit with many elderly patients who are at risk for falls. Nurse S noticed there is often miscommunication when a bed alarm is ordered for patients as a fall prevention strategy. This lack of communication and application/reapplication of the bed alarm often results in fall and patient injury. Not all staff are aware of the new device. When used as ordered, this device has demonstrated a decrease in patient falls. However, because not all staff are aware, the patients are still falling. The director of education and CNO have said all staff have been educated.
