This paper requires you to look at various aspects of socio-economic class. As we will talk about, social class is perhaps the most wide-ranging and consequential social category we will consider this semester. The socio-economic class a child is born into shapes and influences so many of the life changes that she or he will be faced with.With this assignment, you are to offer a multi-faceted discussion/analysis of socio-economic class.

There is no one right way? to put all of this together (and doing that effectively is part of the assignment), but your discussion must include each of the following:

-A clear, direct, developed (i.e. a minimum of a couple of sentences) statement of what you think socio-economic class is/means. Put this in your own words.

-What socio-economic class would you say you are in? Why? In your discussion, apply Max Weber?s concept of SES (we?ll discuss this in class).

-Give an example from your life where you were impacted by your socio-economic class. In your discussion here, include elements of your own definition, and your discussion of Weber?s SES.

-Somewhere in your discussion, discuss whether or not you think that socio-economic class has a cultural component to it, and why/why not.

-In your discussion, include two outside media sources (online newspaper articles, or something like that) where socio-economic class play a central role in the story.

-In your discussion, include some relevant material from the textbook-Here?s the tricky part ? try to tie all of this together into a coherent statement about socio-economic class, rather than having five or six unrelated sections. Again, we?ll talk in class about how to do this.
