Problem

"Decoding" refers to the process by which a person receives signals from an encoder and translates those signals into meaningful messages. "Proper" decoding means that messages sent by the encoder are interpreted in the manner in which they were meant to be conveyed. The point is that such a purpose cannot often be fulfilled because of the decoder's different socio-cultural background.

This discussion will show you how meaning or an image attached to the same word tends to be different depending on the individuals' experiences and socio-cultural environments where they were raised. When commenting on your peers' posts, be sure to highlight similarities and differences that you noticed when compared to your own responses.

Write your images for the following keywords. Write the words that came to your mind in either noun or adjective form. For example, when you look at the word "rain," you may think of the words such as "umbrella," "gloomy," "tears," etc. Do not spend too much time on each word-trust your intuition. When you write your word, describe why you think that specific adjective or noun came up to your mind. Then, answer the subsequent questions.
