Case study:

"Dawn is a 17-year-old adolescent who lives in a neighborhood where there are high levels of crime and gang violence. Although her family struggles with poverty, Dawn's parents do their best to ensure that she is appropriately clothed and has enough to eat. You are the director of the Hart City Community Advocacy center in Dawn's neighborhood. Dawn has visited your office and complained that she often walks past gang members to get to school, making her feel nervous and unsafe. She has seen individuals in her neighborhood selling drugs and has witnessed drive-by shootings.

Recently, you notice that Dawn shows up at the community center with bloodshot eyes and smells like marijuana. You also notice that since arriving at the center today, she has vomited repeatedly. When you speak to Dawn about your suspicions, she explains that she is high and has been smoking marijuana to feel comfortable walking to school and the community center. She tells you not to worry because marijuana is not a real drug, and the substance is reducing her fears related to living in the neighborhood."
