Question: A psychologist is working in a school. The school resource officer (SRO) brings in Christopher, a 10-year-old boy that the psychologist has met with in the past. The SRO informs the psychologist that he just had to pull Christopher off another boy on the playground for fighting. When the SRO pulled Christopher off the boy, Christopher had been attempting to strangle the boy and was yelling "I'm going to kill you!" What should the psychologist do next? Ensure safety of client and others in the area, use a calm demeanor, gather information about the incident, Christopher's thoughts and feelings during the incident, motivations and intent to harm and assess for risk. Call the police as Christopher assaulted and threatened another student. Do nothing and trust that Christopher was just "burning off steam" and no longer poses a threat. Refer the client for a threat assessment.
