The United States and 6 other countries (Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Sri Lanka) have an minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) of 21 years old, the highest MLDA where it is legal to drink. The presidents of 136 colleges and universities issued a call for reopening public debate over the legal drinking age. This was called the Amethyst Initiative.
