Assignment: FIFA & the World Cup

As always, please remember: You must also answer WHY to support your arguments. Each question topic therefore should have Assertions (What you are claiming), Analysis (Why you are claiming is true), and Specific Examples (Facts, Data, Instances that support your claims and and arguments to be true)...

Issues to Discuss:

I. From what you have learned during class, please select and argue the ideal "RUN-UP" time from selecting a World Cup host until the date that competition would be held. Please make sure to defend that length of time, why such selection you made is vital for FIFA and World Cup success... and examples of the past to support your claims.

II. What should a future World Cup nation host look like? Thus, please address what KINDS of nations should be hosting a tournament. Should they only be first world, economically elite nations... or should we get a cross-section of different kinds of lands and cultures--regardless of financial standing globally? What factors would go into deciding whether a nation is a good and safe choice to present a World Cup, and why? Please don't forget examples.

III. Joint Hosting: With the World Cup field being expanded in 2026 to FORTY-EIGHT (48) nations, what will the future of staging a World Cup look like? Is co-hosting going to mostly become inevitable--and why or why not? What traits should we look at when examining a co-hosted competition, and which nations should NOT be paired... and why/why not? Or, should we keep the general trend of one nation getting to present the tournament, regardless of teams competing in the event? (Don't forget examples.)

IV. What are the ADVANTAGES and DRAWBACKS of both the Congress and Executive Committee when selecting a World Cup host? List and evaluate the merits of those... then selecting which you prefer, and why that is so? Again, examples!

V. What is your assessment of FIFA corruption? What do you see as FIFA's most glaring challenges in whether the organization can be reformed? Regardless of your response, who (if anyone) might be able to help that reform occur--and why/why not? If no one is your answer, why might that NOT be? Examples, please.

VI. How do you see a future FIFA? What will it look like, and will it be better days ahead without--or at the very least, reduced--corruption... or will "status quo" remain? Justify your response with examples.
