Question: European colonist brought Christianity with them when they colonized countries in Asia thru missionaries. Philippines is one of the countries in Asia that had been full adapted to Christianity, and it became its national religion till this day. Christianity in America on the other had a different outcome due to the division of Christianity. Missionaries arrive in North America came from different sect such as Protestant and Jesuits.
In Asian and American cultures, Christianity had brought new look in personal beliefs and ritual practices that is influenced by the teachings of Christianity. Asian countries had different way of accepting Christianity, for example Japan had ban Christianity and prosecuted anyone who practiced it. Philippines on the other hand had fully accepted Christianity as their religion and their way of life. Spanish colonist was able to hold on to their Philippine colony for more than 300 years because of this until the People had support from outside nation to start their rebellion and fight for freedom.
Christianity however also had mystery that believers may accept as a form of faith but other will criticize. In 1531, a Christian farmer named Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin reported an apparition that told him to built a Church. A church was built and was dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe. People from all over the world started pilgrimages to see the location. Although not everyone believes this actually happen, some scholars argue that the apparition never happened, and Juan Diego did not even exist at all. (Strayer & Nelson, 2021)
Everyone had a choice to believe what is real, their faith to there religion will guide. Christianity had a great impact in shaping Asian and American culture that can be seen in the arts, church design and how people practiced their religion.
