ASSIGNMENT:

On March 15, 2011, Syria fell into civil war, razing to the ground much of the country that was one of the most beautiful in the Middle East. Peruse the internet and several major media sites to:

provide a brief general sketch of the historical causes of this strife;
identify who the major domestic Syrian players are;
identify who the major outside influences/players are and their alliances;
and describe generally, what role the United States has played under President Obama and now under President Trump.

This last issue (4) of US "policy" in Syria is an interesting issue. I use scare quotes purposely to highlight a big problem with the world's supposed hegemon. Because of all the external political stakeholders regarding Syria, the US is arguably both the most powerful and the least consistent in its involvement.
