Technology is an unmistakable economic and social force in both business and the world where we live. Global and local communications, business exchanges, the science that affects the quality of our lives, and the simple tasks that make up our daily lives are all significantly influenced by technology. In a world of genetically modified food, human genome, biotechnology, and stem-cell research, emerging technological innovations have dramatically changed how we live, eat, play, learn, work, and interact with others - raising important social and ethical questions for society.

The debate over genetically modified foods has caused a societal divide for decades. After watching the GMO video links, answer the following:

-Do you believe that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are HARMFUL or do you believe they are SAFE? Why or why not?

(a) If you believe they are harmful, do these harms outweigh the important and economically beneficial agricultural advances due to genetically engineered foods? Explain.

(b) If you believe they are safe, do the potential benefits outweigh the risks? Explain.

-Is it just a matter of labeling: does the recent trend toward more labeling of GMO foods satisfy the public's need for information? Explain.

-What role has the government played (or should play) in this issue?

-Would you knowingly eat GMO foods or feed them to your family? (keep in mind you might have already consumed GMO foods without knowing it)
