Recommended Approach with HR Manager:
When setting up the interview with the HR manager, explain to him/her that you are a student enrolled in an HR Management course interested in their organization and industry. The interview will provide you with an opportunity to learn about HR from a real-world perspective. Thank them for agreeing to help you with this class project. Explain that there are 11 questions that you will ask them and if they would like you can present the questions ahead of time.
1. What was the reason for you to start a career in HRM?
2. Of the seven tasks an HR manager does, which do you think is the most challenging? Why?
3. What are the professional and personal skills needed to be successful in HRM?
4. What are the certifications needed for this profession?
5. What role does Ethics play in your position/career?
6. What is the employee's perception of what you do on a day-to-day basis?
7. What are some of the challenges of your position?
8. What role does technology play in your department/organization? How is technology employed in their HRM functions?
9. How does the company manage employee performance, retention, and motivation?
10. If you had it to do all over again in selecting your career field, would you do anything differently?
11. Anything else you would like me to know about HR and your company.
