In order to have an effective HR department an organization must have an the willingness to change based on research and development compiled by the HR department. The HR department needs to be a well rounded part of the organization that can skillfully identify issues within an organization as well as those outside of it that can potentially affect the companies future. Being competitive is the name of the game to have a good HR department, "an increasing amount of research suggests that the way organizations implement and modify their HRM activities can provide competitive advantages " (chapter 2 Human resource management). An effective HR department needs to be well though out for its recruitment and training of diverse individuals and always look to ensure the supervisors and managers are trained in basic forms or HR compliance standards.
To ensure the effectiveness of the department HR must be aware of company goals in order to create a proper workforce around these goals. Communication is a key aspect in any success and is no different for a Human Resource department. Predicting, acknowledging and managing change is a forever ongoing task that must always be in affect to keep the department running to its highest degree, and always keeping a sense of urgency because within any good HR department change happens swiftly and sometimes without preparation.
And what role do employees play in helping to achieve this goal? First off employees must have trust in that their organization and HR department is always working in changes that will also benefit the employees. The staff has a supporting role and must enjoy what they do in order to allow for success in the organization. Employees also can assist in their goals by actively communicating issues and ideas to add to improvement of activities and policies and standards.
