Problem
As you have learned, part of effective crisis management involves having a solid plan for addressing the crisis. This involves effective communication with the appropriate people. Consider the following case:
In 2015, Nestlé India faced a crisis. One of its main products, Maggi noodles, was found to have the chemical monosodium glutamate (MSG), even though the product's packaging stated, "No Added MSG." MSG was not prohibited in India, but regulations required that the label indicate that MSG is in the food and that it is not recommended for children under 12 months; the label on the noodles did not say this. Although Nestlé India claimed that they did not add MSG, a government laboratory found that the noodles had both MSG and seven times the permissible amount of lead. As you might imagine, the story was widely covered in the news media, and social media exploded with the story. (Source: Ganga S. Dhanesh and Krishnamurthy Sriramesh, "Culture and Crisis Communication: Nestle India's Maggi Noodles Case," Journal of International Management.)
As a security professional, you are part of the Nestlé India crisis management team that will address this situation. For your initial post in the discussion, address the following:
1. Name three individuals or groups that you would need to contact immediately.
2. What risks would there be to the company if the crisis team did not contact the appropriate people?
