Case Study: The policy I chose is the I Am Vanessa Guillen Act. It became effective in December of 2021 after family, friends, and others fought for Justice for the Murder of the 20-year-old United States Army Soldier Vanessa Guillen. She was sexually harassed on multiple occasions by Army Soldier Aaron Robinson. When she spoke up about it nothing was done. He ended up murdering Vanessa and had his girlfriend help hide her body. Under this law, the decision to prosecute sexual assault and sexual harassment will be made outside the service member's chain of command. They will also be offered protection against retaliation for speaking up. One way to determine the effectiveness of this policy is by helping those speak up and ensuring they are getting what they need without retaliating. Institutional social control can help by creating a safe space for those to come and talk to them. Even by helping out or calling someone when they see something going on. Giving them a phone number to contact if they look like they are having a difficult time or if they look like they are being harassed. For example, some bars have it posted in women's restrooms to ask for an "angel Shot" if a customer is making them feel unsafe.
