For this discussion I would like you to consider some of the more prevalent explanations for apparent disparate treatment in relation to how capital punishment is applied in sentencing. Throughout the decades, death penalty rates for homicide offenses involving African American offenders and white victims are considerably higher than homicides involving African American offenders and African American victims.

What, in your view, is the reasoning for this? There are two example explanations outlined in your text (pg. 391) however I would prefer you put forth your own view/opinion in your response. You can incorporate some of what you read in the text in your response, but do you believe other factors are in play?

Also, what remedies would you recommend for addressing the issue? There are some examples provided in Chapter 8 (pg. 396), and you're welcome to cite one or more of those however what do you personally believe needs to be done to address remedy for this purpose?
