Case Study: A provider writes the following IV fluid replacement order for a 16 year old patient with an NG tube to suction.

  • 1 liter NS with 20 mEq KCL every 10 hours
  • Measure and replace NG tube drainage mL for mL every 4 hours with IV fluids, Lactated Ringers solution (LR)
  • Maximum IV rate is 140 mL/hour

The nurse notes the NG tube drainage for the next 4 hour time period is 140 mL.
