Write a 5-page review essay on the book A Silent Revolution (around 250 pages)
Develop a critical discussion that not only evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the book, but that also gives a sense of how this book relates to other works in the field. This paper should be approximately 1500 words in length.
When writing your essay ensure that you do the following:
1. Outline the basic structure of the book and identify its contents. What does he say in each chapter? Briefly summarize what he says.
2. Identify the types of sources Durflinger uses to make his case. Check his footnotes. Does he use letters, diaries, interviews, documents, other secondary sources?
3. Make an approximate assessment of the strength of his sources. Are they the type of sources that are reliable? If so, what makes them reliable? Can you see any problems that emerge from the types of sources he uses?
4. Identify three key points Durflinger makes that strike you as indicating something important. What was most interesting? Most revealing?
5. What did you learn about French-English relations in Canada during the war period? This is one of the constant tensions in Canadian life. How was it experienced during the war years?
6. What questions remain for you? What would you like to know more about? What puzzled you about the people of Verdun? What do you find confusing or hard to understand?
Please note that these 6 points are not the outline of your essay and point form is not acceptable. These questions are to help you identify all the items that should be in a review essay. How you organize them is up to you.
As you revise and complete your essay, ensure that it has:
1. An introduction that indicates your basic perspective on the book.
2. A conclusion that summarizes your key points.
3. An APA title page, reference page, and other APA style features.
While you may quote the book, long quotes are to be avoided. Summarize major quotes. Use APA style format for your quotes and their citation.
You may wish to make reference to other readings. If so, ensure they are germane to your essay.
