Question

A 42-year-old male patient presented to the office of his primary care physician complaining of anxiety and a rapid heartbeat. After obtaining a patient history, the physician performed a physical examination of the patient and then ordered the medical assistant to perform an electrocardiogram (ECG) on the patient. The ECG showed tachycardia with normal rhythm and no evidence of an acute cardiac event. Examination results were all within normal limits, except for the rapid heartbeat, and the physician diagnosed the patient with generalized anxiety and tachycardia.
